Ed Masol was born and raised in Harrison, New Jersey. Diagnosed with
aortic insufficiency, he underwent his first open heart surgery at the
age of 21, to replace his aortic valve. A second surgery followed at
the age of 32. Experiencing increasing bouts of congestive heart failure
throughout his 30's, he was finally advised that transplantation would
be his only option. Successfully transplanted August 4, 1996, Ed enjoyed
a new lease on life. Tragedy struck the family the following December,
when his 12 year old niece, Katie, was declared brain dead due to lack
of oxygen following a seizure. Ed dedicates his participation in TSI
to his donor family and his niece
